ONGOING/UPCOMING LIBRARY EVENTS
Dodwell Gallery ReceptionEveryone is invited to the opening reception for an exhibition of Scott York’s small bronze and marble sculptures, on Sunday, August 16, at 4 p.m., at the Long Island Library. His widow, Alix Kates Shulman, will also present a brief slide show of Scott’s life (1929-2014).Scott’s sculpture has been exhibited at galleries in New York City, Santa Fe, Honolulu, Cleveland, Portland, ME—and now on Long Island, ME, a place he dearly loved. He designed and helped build the writing studio at the tip of Andrews Nubble, beyond South Beach. His life was saved in 2004 by the heroic Long Island Volunteer Fire and Rescue, for which Alix is immensely grateful. Please come help celebrate Scott York’s life and work. The Long Island Invitational Artists Exhibit closing reception is Sunday, August 16 at 6:00 p.m. following the Scott York presentation by Alix Shulman. The twelve artists represented in this exhibit have produced some outstanding work. How fortunate we are: they keep sharing, and we keep purchasing. That buck has received much attention. He will be missed. Some of the twelve artists should be on the island that day. We can cheer them on to produce more art for a future exhibit. It has been a pleasure to have the Steele family so well represented in this exhibit. What a range of talent! Then, there are nine more artists work filling our gallery, a truly varied exhibit.Carolyn GaudetDodwell Gallery Curator
The Maine Photo Project
This exhibit reflects the history of photography through the collections of the Long Island Historical Society, as well as private collections. From daguerreotypes to digital photography, Long Island has long been photographed – people, places, homes, ferries. The exhibit is supplemented with antique cameras from private collections and books from the collections of the Long Island Community Library.
